The Hunt
One Sunday afternoon we were invited to a "dry hunt" in Keshcarrigan,
Co. Leitrim. A "dry hunt" has replaced the fox hunt which is no longer
being done in Europe. We met John Reynolds and his wife, Shiela, there and had a
pint of Guinness while waiting for the hunters to return. John had invited us there
because he was catering the dinner afterwards.
The hunters came into McKeon's Pub, one by one, as they completed the hunt. We all had a wonderful meal of recipes for St. Patrick's Day with bacon and cabbage, mashed potatoes with parsley sauce, carrots and a dinner roll. The hunters were very hungry and thirsty and the atmosphere was thick with talk of the day's events. We enjoyed our day out and headed back to Mohill to join our friends, the Casey's, as, sadly, that was our last night in Ireland.
