Drumshanbo

Road Sign Drumshanbo

On our first trip out of Carrick-On-Shannon, we were travelling to Ballinamore to find the Genealogical Library. We were passing through Drumshanbo and thought what a cute town it was! There were beautifully painted buildings and we had to stop and take some photos.

One of the best things we liked about Ireland was the colorful exteriors of the shops and, especially, the pubs. This quaint little town is located on a hill and the road from Carrick joins in half-way down the slope. There is a small roundabout with road signs pointing in every direction. We had our first experience grocery shopping in Drumshanbo. We went into a small store and purchased some ground coffee, freshly baked scones and strawberry jam. We also picked up some biscuits (cookies), some red lemonade and orange shandy tonic.

The shops carry the usual and most popular American sodas but theirs have fruit juice in them. I was very curious about the way the Irish food products were packaged because they are so different from ours. Instead of big, value-packed or family-sized items, theirs are small and maybe enough for one or two days. I spent quite a long time just looking at things and I enjoyed every minute of it.
